I’m taking a Women’s Studies course at school and we are looking at the topic of Motherhood. This week we are discussing motherhood and disabilities, and I came across this wonderful video series that is made by a student about a mother who has schizophrenia and how it has impacted her life and the life of her daughter. I think he did a really good job! The video is divided into four parts and I hope you watch all four parts! :)

“The Shiniest Jewel: A Family Love Story,” by Marian Henley is a graphic novel that you won’t want to put down! The story of adoption, life, love, etc. told in adorable cartoons. If you have never read a graphic novel, you should start with this one. You won’t be disappointed. Maybe you are thinking “I’m an adult, I don’t do cartoon books! I need small type, 500+ pages and footnotes to believe I’m really reading.” haha. Don’t be silly. Really, you don’t need to prove to anyone how serious a reader you are! Indulge in some chocolate here! Besides, this book IS serious!

Review: Major Problems in the History of American Families and Children

“Major Problems In the History of American Families and Children” edited by Anya Jabour is one of the books in the Houghton Mifflin ‘Major Problems in American History’ series. The book is a tremendous resource of both primary source documents and academic writings on the subject of American families and children. The book helps to train college students to look for primary sources and how to evaluate those sources by providing examples of discourse related to many of the primary sources in the book. The primary sources in the book are interesting and provoked further exploration of topics which include families in bondage, Native American, Victorian, frontier, Civil War and immigrant families to name a few. It also tackles the case of orphans, families of the 1950’s, the welfare system and late 20th century family politics. An example of what a good textbook should look and operate like. Bravo! (  )

Whew! It has been awhile since I have written a tip/trick. The last few months have been crazy, but not really in a good way. Oh well. The tip I’m writing about today has to do with this special time of year for people. This may be rather specific to people who are in the US and/or to people who celebrate certain holidays. Anyway, in the US most people have some holiday that they celebrate or they go on vacation or just have some time off. The major holidays are Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Kwanza, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Again, I know there are more holidays that I’m sure I’m missing, but these are the big ones. So, here is my tip: Continue Reading Tips And Tricks For Surviving A Mental Illness #11…

Well, I got my new helmet from nutcasehelmets.com and I really love it. Not only is it way beautimus, but it is also very comfy! I haven’t had a chance to wear it while riding my bike yet, because I hate hot weather and it is too hot to ride. Plus they have recently opened up our once quiet and good bike riding street so that it has a lot more traffic, especially while they are working on Continue Reading Helmet Head…

I don’t really know how many of these steps there are going to be. I kind of just write about them as they pop into my head even though I may have given them some more thought previously. Anyway, on with step number four. Step number four has to do with dealing with the people you may encounter in your life and the people who are important to you.
